The creation of a modem photography collection has been the goal of the Contemporary Art department in the Vatican Museums for many years. Since the time of Paul VI, and today with the spirit of the New Evangelization, the Vatican Museums is answering the call to enter into cultural “dialogue” with the contemporary art world.
This project would launch a new photographic collection with the original works by renowned photographers (Italian, British and American) who will photograph specifically within the Vatican Museums environment.
A donation of € 80,000 will be contributed from the Carlson fund to match one already pledged by a donor of the California Chapter who is a contemporary photography enthusiast and collector.
Once the project is completed, and if additional funding is secured, a travelling exhibit of the photographs, with a fully illustrated catalogue in English and Italian naming the donors, is foreseen. (Donation: €80,000)
